Seabirds

Birds that have adapted to life within the marine environment.

Seabirds are birds that are adapted to life within the marine environment. They encompass a variety of lifestyles, behaviors, and physiologies, and are known for long migrations, seasonal mating and nesting, and switching of feeding grounds and prey organisms.

Seabird populations are at higher risk from human activities because they tend to be long-lived, mature late, lay few eggs, and invest a great deal of time in their offspring. Migratory birds may be at additional risk from collision with offshore wind turbine blades or floating wave devices in adverse weather. The physical presence of any offshore structure may cause either attraction or avoidance from seabirds.
