Entanglement

Marine organisms becoming entangled by mooring lines, anchors, or cables.

Arrays of floating offshore wind and marine renewable energy devices may create a web of mooring lines, anchors, and export cables that may lead to entanglement of animals such as marine mammals and fish. Entanglement may lead to injury or death; however, typical mooring systems do not have any loose ends, so entanglement is not possible unless derelict fishing gear were to wrap around mooring lines or cables and entangle marine animals (secondary entanglement).
