Ground-Nesting Birds
Ground-nesting birds are birds from the Phasianidae family, which tend to be heavy-bodied ground-feeding birds such as quail, pheasants, and prairie chickens. They tend to have small wings and strong legs, preventing them from flying long distances and resulting in a low probability for collision with land-based wind turbine blades.
Ground-nesting birds are often affected by habitat loss from the device footprint and access roads. However, further research is required to understand potential impacts on predation, mating success, and nest success.
