Canada

Canada is located in North America, covers 9,984,670 km2 (3,855,103 mile2) of land surface, and has a population of 38 million people (UN data, 2021). Canada’s primary energy production is 6,152 terawatt-hours (TWh), and energy supply per capita is 93 MWh (UN data, 2021). Oil and gas are tied as the largest sources of energy consumed, each representing 31% of the national total (Our World in Data, 2023). Canada is home to 180 threatened species (UN data, 2021).

Canada is currently a member of Ocean Energy Systems, participating in OES-Environmental. Canada had 4 policy and 9 project highlights in the 2023 OES Annual Report.

Canada is currently a member of IEA Wind, participating in WREN. Canada had a total installed wind power capacity of 15.3 GW by the end of 2022, an increase of 1.01 GW from the year before (IEA-Wind 2022 Annual Report).
