Italy

Italy is located in Southern Europe, covers 302,068 km2 (116,629 mile2) of land surface, and has a population of 59.3 million people (UN data, 2024). Italy's primary energy production is 1,163 terawatt-hours (TWh), and energy supply per capita is 29.2 MWh (UN data, 2024). Oil is the largest source of energy consumed, accounting for 41.59% of the national total (Our World in Data, 2023). Italy is home to 519 threatened species (UN data, 2024).

Italy had a total (net) installed wind power capacity of 12.1 GW and total offshore capacity of 0.03 GW at the end of 2023. The new 2023 installed wind capacity was 0.45 GW, similar to the previous year’s growth (IEA-Wind, 2023 Annual Report). Italy is currently a member of IEA Wind, participating in WREN.
