France

France is located in Western Europe, covers 551,500 km2 (212,935 mile2) of land surface, and has a population of 65 million people (UN data, 2021). France’s primary energy production is 1,561 terawatt-hours (TWh), and energy supply per capita is 43 MWh (UN data, 2021). Nuclear is the largest source of energy consumed, accounting for 35% of the national total (Our World in Data, 2023). France is home to 382 threatened species (UN data, 2021).

France is currently a member of Ocean Energy Systems, participating in OES-Environmental. France had 2 policy and 2 project highlights in the 2023 OES Annual Report.

France is currently a member of IEA Wind, participating in WREN. France had a total installed wind power capacity of 20.9 GW by the end of 2022, an increase of 1.88 GW from the year before (IEA-Wind 2022 Annual Report).
