Institute of Meteorology and Water Management—National Research Institute
Since 1919, we have been forecasting weather, conducting analyses, and carrying out research. Weather and climate are among the most important topics in today's world. We are an Institute that brings together top-class professionals and possesses the necessary infrastructure.
Our mission is to inform the public and organizations about weather conditions – meteorological and hydrological, climate change, and all factors influencing the current weather in Poland.
The main task of IMGW-PIB is to provide meteorological support for Poland. For this purpose, the IMGW Monitor was created – a service for all national operational services and public administration bodies. As part of our statutory activities, we create, process, and issue meteorological forecasts, warnings for dangerous atmospheric phenomena, and dedicated bulletins and communications.
Today's climate conditions have a huge impact on life, the economy, businesses, and us—the inhabitants of Earth. In Poland, we are encountering many anomalies and previously unknown phenomena that we must be prepared for in the coming years. Experts and specialists at IMGW-PIB are continuously analyzing data, making changes to forecast models, and searching for new ways to predict the atmospheric conditions Poland, Europe, and the world will face.
We are members of many international organizations. We represent Poland at the WMO (World Meteorological Organization) and Eumetsat (European Organisation for the Exploitation of Meteorological Satellites) forums. We participate in research activities from the Arctic to Africa. Our measurement and observation network covers all of Poland. The Institute is preparing for many challenges. New infrastructure, modern communication platforms, and a range of services and forecasting models will be tailored to the expectations of partners, institutions, customers, and society.
