Abstract
Wind turbines are important for a sustainable energy supply. The health effects of infrasound are often the focus of public discussion during the construction and operation of these installations. Noise measurements and noise impact studies indicate that infrasound levels from wind turbines are well below the human perception threshold. According to the current state of research, there is no evidence that infrasound from wind turbines causes adverse health effects. However, so far only the results of cross-sectional studies and experimental investigations are available. Therefore, long-term epidemiological studies in the vicinity of wind turbines should be carried out to identify possible long-term effects not yet known. The German Environment Agency intends to award a preparatory research project for such an investigation in 2021.
