Description
In January 2022, Eco Wave Power and AltaSea entered into a collaborative agreement to relocate Eco Wave Power’s Gibraltar Pilot plant to the AltaSea premises at the Port of Los Angeles. AltaSea is a non-profit organization that maintains an ocean-based research and blue technology campus in the Port of Los Angeles. Eco Wave Power plans to install eight wave energy floaters on pre-existing concrete wharf piles. The energy system will include an energy conversion unit, comprised of two 20-foot shipping containers, which will be placed on the wharf deck and connected to the floaters.

Licensing Information
Eco Wave Power received permit 25-05 from the Port of Los Angeles, marking the final approval for the wave energy project at Berth 70 in San Pedro. With all permits secured, completion is expected by June 2025.

Project Progress
In December 2022, the energy conversion unit arrived at the Port of Los Angeles from Gibraltar and Eco Wave Power plans to complete installation by the end of June 2025. In January 2024, Eco Wave signed a strategic co-investment agreement and pilot development agreement with Shell International Exploration and Production Inc.
Key Environmental Issues
Eco Wave Power’s floaters do not connect to the ocean floor, and do not create any new presence in the ocean. Eco Wave Power only connects its floaters to existent manmade structures. There is no underwater mooring or underwater electric cables. Also, the Eco Wave Power technology uses biodegradable hydraulic fluid.
