University of Veterinary Sciences Brno
The founder and first rector of the university was Prof. MUDr. et MVDr. h.c. Eduard Babák. The actual teaching began on November 17, 1919. Initially, the university developed as a single-faculty university focused on veterinary medicine (veterinary medicine). In 1975, two fields of study were established at the university, namely the field of general veterinary medicine (later renamed to veterinary medicine) and the field of veterinary medicine – food hygiene (later renamed to veterinary hygiene and ecology). In 1990, two faculties were established at the university - the Faculty of General Veterinary Medicine (today's Faculty of Veterinary Medicine) focused on veterinary medicine and the Faculty of Veterinary Hygiene and Ecology focused on veterinary hygiene. In 1991, a third faculty was established – the Faculty of Pharmacy, focused on pharmacy. Since 1994, the university has been called the University of Veterinary and Pharmaceutical Sciences Brno. In 2020, the Faculty of Pharmacy left for Masaryk University. From 1.4.2021, the university bears the name Veterinary University Brno.
