Abstract
We value the ocean. In Scotland, we benefit from a coastal sea, a rich marine biodiversity, many resources, a very long coastline and many islands. “Valuing the ocean” can vary from enjoying solitude on a beach in winter to building wealth from offshore resources. All values must be safeguarded against external threats and competing values.
Decisions must be made and should be based on values and knowledge. Experts have a role in predicting the effects of decisions.
In this storyboard, we describe how one group of experts based in Scotland can provide some of the expertise and help inform decisions. To view some examples of models in use, see the Case Studies section.
