Wildlife & Wind Energy Webinar Series: Grouse - Considerations for developing wind energy in grouse habitat

The National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) and Defenders of Wildlife hosted a free, nine-part webinar series, Wildlife & Wind Energy Webinar Series: Considerations for Monitoring and Managing Impacts, between August and November 2020. All webinars were recorded and are available on Tethys.

Webinar #3: Grouse: Considerations for developing wind energy in grouse habitat

North American grouse species present unique and novel challenges for permitting wildlife-responsible wind energy. These challenges are largely driven by the paucity of data available, unique monitoring challenges, the expanding development in grouse ranges, and complex regulatory history. This webinar discussed the challenges and explored opportunities for advancing responsible wind development despite uncertainty. Grouse experts from Western EcoSystems, American Wind Wildlife Institute, Oregon Natural Desert Association, and EDP Renewables discussed 1) existing guidelines for development in grouse territory, 2) the state of the science on grouse and wind energy, and 3) current practices for monitoring for grouse and developing near grouse habitat.
