Offshore Wind Energy and Wildlife: Applying Lessons Learned for U.S.
Intercontinental St. Paul Riverfront Hotel
November 27, 2018, 1:00 PM - 5:00 PM
As offshore wind is developed in the US, questions remain regarding risks to wildlife above and below the water surface. This workshop will bring together a diverse group of stakeholders from around the world to share experiences in both land-based and offshore development that could facilitate timely and responsible development of offshore wind in the US. Topics to be covered include:
- Status of offshore development and research in the US
- Planned/potential development areas in Atlantic and Pacific
- Current understanding of risks and impacts to species of concern
- Research needs and ongoing coordination efforts
- Lessons learned from European offshore development and research
- Applying experiences and strategies from land-based wind to the future of offshore wind-wildlife research
The workshop will feature expert presentations and opportunities for participant discussion and feedback.
This is a pre-meeting workshop of the Wind Wildlife Research Meeting XII and is not included in the general meeting registration. A concurrent workshop, Generalized Estimator (GenEst) Training, will also be held.
