Generalized Estimator (GenEst) Training
Intercontinental St. Paul Riverfront Hotel
November 27, 2018, 1:00 PM - 6:00 PM
In the past, numerous statistical approaches have been developed to calculate project-wide fatality estimates from raw data from turbine surveys. However, accurate estimation is surprisingly difficult, and different statistical approaches can lead to widely differing results. We will discuss some of the challenges and how new statistical models have resolved many of the issues. The new models are now available in an easy-to-use software package, GenEst (short for “generalized estimator”), marking substantial advances in reliability, consistency, and usability of estimators.
The primary focus of the workshop will be the software itself: installation, data requirements, modeling, estimation, and interpretation of results. After an initial walk-through of the software, participants will have the opportunity to work through example data sets on their own computers and discuss the models and software with GenEst developers.
This is a pre-meeting workshop of the Wind Wildlife Research Meeting XII and is not included in the general meeting registration. A concurrent workshop, Offshore Wind Energy and Wildlife: Applying Lessons Learned for U.S. Development, will also be held.
