Ecowende Webinar: Baseline Studies Above Water

How do you know if an offshore wind farm has been built in harmony with nature? By starting with a solid baseline.

We are building the Ecowende wind farm with ecology in mind from the drawing board. To demonstrate what our measures and eco-innovations truly deliver, we first need to know what the local ecosystem looks like without a wind farm. That is why we started our monitoring and research programme before construction, with baseline studies.

Join our two webinars to find out what we measured, how we did it, and what we learned about marine life in our wind farm zone. Together with our partners Waardenburg Ecology and WaterProof Marine Consultancy & Services B.V., we will take you through the studies above and below water.

Webinar 1: baseline studies above water
Wednesday, 18 November 2026, 14.00 – 15.30 CET

Webinar 2: baseline studies below water
Wednesday, 2 December 2026, 14.00 – 15.30 CET

Why are baseline studies so important?

  • A point of comparison. Without a baseline, it is impossible to determine whether birds, bats, harbour porpoises, fish and seabed life are disturbed by the (construction of the) wind farm or even benefit from it.
  • Effectiveness of measures. Only with a baseline and suitable reference sites can we determine whether our ecological measures and innovations really have a positive effect.
  • Filling knowledge gaps for the entire sector. Much about the North Sea is still unknown. We share our data and insights widely so that future wind farms can benefit from them.
  • A foundation for the entire lifetime of our wind farm. The baseline is the starting point for years of monitoring during the construction and operational phases.
