Department of Geological Sciences, University of Buenos Aires
The Department of Geological Sciences is one of the twelve into which the Faculty of Exact and Natural Sciences is subdivided. It is located in Pavilion 2 of the City University. It has 15 classrooms equipped with teaching instruments, 70 cabinets and 6 laboratories where teachers, researchers, fellows, doctoral students and support staff carry out their work.
The teaching staff is made up of more than 120 people, and 60 researchers, professional technicians and CONICET scholarship holders must also be added, a staff whose 70% have reached the degree of Doctorate in Cs. geological.
Among the Laboratories we can mention: Paleomagnetism, Chemical Analysis, Petrographic Sections, Geological Modeling, Phosphates, Study and Monitoring of Active Volcanoes, Neotectonics, Micropaleontology, Microscopy, Palinostratigraphy and Paleobotany, Andean Tectonics, Paleontology, etc. which develop an important task of investigation both of the same Department and external. In addition, the Department has its own museums, of which we can mention: Mineralogy, Petrography and Paleontology.
