On December 12, Dr. Andrea Copping and Simon Geerlofs from the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) will be presenting to the Marine Energy Council on the latest developments with the Annex IV project. Annex IV was established in 2010 to examine environmental effects of marine energy development, with the U.S. Department of Energy acting as the operating agent and PNNL utilizing Tethys as the platform on which Annex IV activities are coordinated and recorded. Currently in its third phase (2016–2020), a major focus of Annex IV is on data transferability and collection consistency. By transferring what has been learned through research and monitoring from one project to another, Annex IV aims to reduce the costs for baseline environmental studies and post-installation monitoring, decrease uncertainty, and facilitate a common understanding of effects, in order to accelerate permitting processes.
