CTEMPs DAS-DTS Reno–Tahoe Workshop 2026

The Center for Transformative Environmental Monitoring Programs (CTEMPs) invites graduate students, postdoctoral researchers, faculty, and professionals to participate in a five-day immersive, hands-on workshop focused on Distributed Acoustic Sensing (DAS) and Distributed Temperature Sensing (DTS) for environmental monitoring.

The Reno–Tahoe region provides a unique natural laboratory for environmental sensing applications.

What You Will Learn

  • Experimental design for fiber-optic sensing
  • Installation and calibration of DAS & DTS systems
  • Real-time data acquisition and troubleshooting
  • Seismic, hydrological, and thermal signal interpretation
  • Data processing workflows in Python / MATLAB

Program Highlights

  • Monday (Aug 10 - start 9 AM): Introduction to Fiber-Optic Sensing & System Overview
  • Tuesday: Field Deployment & Data Acquisition (Reno)
  • Wednesday: Field Applications in Lake Tahoe
  • Thursday: Full-Day Hands-On Experiments & Data Analysis
  • Friday (Aug 14 end 2 PM): Participant Presentations & Wrap-Up
