Ben Loeffler, Alaska Center for Energy and Power (ACEP) research professional and Pacific Marine Energy Center co-director, and Tim Kalke, Sustainable Energy for Galena Alaska manager, will discuss the scope and status of the joint project and describe the co-development process.
Galena is a rural community of nearly 500 residents, the majority Alaska Native, residing on the north bank of the Yukon River in interior Alaska. The community is currently electrified by an expensive diesel plant, has built a biomass district heating system and is in the process of constructing large scale solar and battery energy storage systems.
The presentation is part of a three-seminar series on marine energy and rural electrification. The series, co-sponsored by ACEP and the Pacific Marine Energy Center, explores perspectives on rural electrification and community priorities, co-development and governance through the lens of marine energy, including riverine and coastal wave energy.
