TY - RPRT TI - Evaluation on Geomorphological Conditions of Site of the BaiShakou Tidal Power Station AU - Liu, Z AU - Wang, Y AU - Han, S AU - Xia, D AU - Xu, X AB - The Baishakou Tidal Power Station, located in the south coast of Shandong Peninsula, is a low water head, experimental tidal power station. The reservoir area of the station is the Baishakou Lagoon which is enclosed by a large baymouth barrier extending from the east to the west. First, the lagoon tends to change gradually into marsh and then into land; secondly, the Baisha River empties into the lagoon with its sediment load and deposits it in the basin to make the lagoon shallower; and thirdly, because of wave action from the eastsouth direction and the influence of coastal line, sediments become concentrated in the mouth outside the lagoon from the east, south and west. From the point of view of geomorphology and oceanic hydrodynamics, all of these are unfavourable conditions to the selection and maintenance of the site of Baishakou Tidal Power Station. Therefore, efficient measures must be taken to stop sand deposition in the mouth, to prevent the lagoon from getting old, so as to prolong the life of use of the station. The favourable condition of the site of the station is that the lagoon is enclosed with a large bay and a small mouth, which provides some conveniences for the construction of the station.
