TY - CONF TI - List of Environmental Effects of MHK Devices AU - Simas, T AU - Moura, A AU - Conley, D T2 - Annex IV Experts Workshop 2010 AB - This presentation explains the environmental risks of MHK devices through “stressors” and “receptors”. Stressors are those that could cause harm to environmental subjects (receptors). The stressor/receptor concept is the basic framework for analyzing potential environmental hazards. This process goes further by assigning different attributes to certain stressors. For example, some stressors may have physical characteristics that make them more dangerous than a different stressor. Some may produce more electromagnetic fields, while others could have larger blades. In addition, each MHK device could affect each animal species differently. Acoustics could cause displacement changes in fish but perceptual (prey/predator detection confusion) changes in mammals. Mitigation attempts have not yet been realized to their full potential, but most methods rely on common sense. DA - 2010/09// PY - 2010 SP - 11 LA - English KW - Marine Energy ER -
