TY - JOUR TI - Life Cycle Assessment of a Multi-Megawatt Wind Turbine AU - Martínez, E AU - Sanz, F AU - Pellegrin, S AU - Jiménez, E AU - Blanco, J T2 - Renewable Energy AB - This article addresses the need for further life cycle assessments of wind turbines. An LCA was developed which will assess wind energy and related emissions that are needed to produce current production technology. This study primarily focused on the Gamesa onshore wind turbine model G8x installed in the Munila wind farm. The model considers the turbine and foundations that support it. However, the model was conducted under these conditions: all electricity data was collected from SimaPro database, used weight of components, and assumed recycling rate based on wind farm decommissioning projects used by the company. The turbine had a greater environmental impact with regards toward respiration due to its use of sulphites and nitrates. In addition, there is a concerning amount of consumption of natural resources.
