TY - GEN TI - Community Engagement in the Development of America’s First Offshore Wind Farm AU - Schuster, L AB - In the coming years, it is expected that the amount of offshore wind farms in the United States will increase as the nation loosens its dependency on non-renewable energy sources. While offshore is an excellent producer of renewable energy, the industry has faced harsh pushback from stakeholders. Previous case studies have showed that public acceptance and community engagement is crucial to the success of an offshore wind farm. Primarily using the Block Island Wind Farm, the United State’s offshore wind farm, this thesis highlights good models of community engagement that should be utilized in the development of offshore wind moving forward.
