The purpose of this EIA is to determine the potential sources of environmental harm in the Nushagak Cooperative’s Hydroelectric project proposal to build a 12 MW run of river small scale hydroelectric plant on the Nuyakuk River. The Nuyakuk River is located in the Wood-Tikchik State Park and is a tributary of the Nushagak River. The plant is projected to provide electricity and optical fiber to the communities of Aleknagik, Koliganek, New Stuyahok, Elwok, and Levelock (Nuyakuk River, 2021). The plant will also be supporting the electrical needs of Bristol Bay’s wild salmon industry (Nuyakuk River, 2021). An alternative action was considered for this project, with the alternative action remaining the same as the proposed action, but with special mitigation measures towards protecting native plants and wildlife in the affected area. After extensive research and analysis, our team determined that there are no significant impacts from the construction or maintenance of this project. The project was proposed and is being developed by, the Nushagak Cooperative.
