Nearfield Habitat

The nearfield habitat can be defined as the physical environment surrounding an offshore renewable energy device, which is often defined as being within 10 meters of the device or array. As the flow of water is disrupted by the physical presence (dynamic or static) of offshore renewable energy devices, the water quality and sedimentation processes within the nearfield habitat may be affected. Chemical leaching may also result from antifouling coatings present on the device surface, affecting the nutrient concentrations in the habitat. Acoustic noise and EMF can also be present within the nearfield habitat, affecting the surrounding environment.
